Anu Tali appointed Music Director of Sarasota Orchestra
Anu Tali has been appointed Music Director of the Sarasota Orchestra in Florida. Her three-year contract begins on 1 August 2013.
Welcoming Tali to the post, Anne Folsom-Smith, Chair of the Sarasota Orchestra Board said: "We believe Anu will take the Sarasota Orchestra to a higher level and in the process will ignite even greater passion for one of the region's cultural gems,"
Anu Tali said of the appointment: “The warmhearted trust and musical connection seemed to have been there since our first meeting and allowed us to bring on stage a little extra than just well-performed music. It has been magical for me to share the stage with the Sarasota Orchestra - a group of musicians who seem to be on stage for all the right reasons. Their sunny attitude and willingness to take risks in order to communicate music have made me want to be with and among them!”
Tali’s first concerts with the orchestra as Music Director, in November 2013, include Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini (with soloist Lukáš Vondráček) and Dvořák’s Symphony No.7.
Anu Tali recently led a new production of La Bayadère at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen and conducted three performances with the Konzerthausorchester, Berlin. Highlights in 2013/14 include returns to the Ensemble Modern and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra as well as her debut at the 2013 Ruhr Triennale in a Gavin Bryars programme. She continues in her post as Music Director of the Nordic Symphony Orchestra
The oldest continuing orchestra in the state of Florida, the Sarasota Orchestra performs more than 100 classical, pops and family concerts each year.
