This week, John Daszak returns to Bayerische Staatsoper for his first outing in the role of Die Knusperhexe in Humperdinck’s late 19th century opera Hänsel und Gretel. Conducted by Tomáš Hanus performances begin on 16 December. This classic production by Richard Jones dwells on the darker side of this fairy tale and has been met with huge success at numerous theatres already, including The Metropolitan Opera and Welsh National Opera.
Never shy of expanding his repertoire, this season also hears Daszak sing Pier Francesco Orsini in Ginastera’s Bomarzo for Teatro Real Madrid and, in a return to Munich, Alviano in Schreker’s Die Gezeichneten.
