World premiere of Eötvös’ new opera Senza Sangue with Anne Sofie von Otter
24/4/2015
The world premiere of Senza Sangue by Peter Eötvös takes place in a concert performance at Kölner Philharmonie on 1 May. It is an opera in one act; the Italian text is based on Alessandro Baricco’s novel of the same name, and arranged for libretto by Mari Mezei. Anne Sofie von Otter (mezzo soprano) and Russell Braun (baritone) join the New York Philharmonic with conductor Alan Gilbert to give the premiere performance. These same musicians will reconvene for two further performances in New York on 8 & 9 May.
There will be further concert performances of Senza Sangue in Gothenburg (22 & 23 April 2016) and Bergen (28 & 29 April 2016) before the scenic premiere in Avignon on 15 May 2016. Further scenic presentations will follow in Budapest (June 2016) and Hamburg (November 2016), as well as concert performances in Rome in December 2016.
Senza Sangue was commissioned by KölnMusik GmbH and New York Philharmonic, with the generous support of the Marie-Josée Kravis Prize for New Music (and in honour of Henri Dutilleux).
