HarrisonParrott is delighted to welcome cellist Alban Gerhardt to its roster for worldwide general management.
Described by Tagesspiegel as “a magician of cantabile playing and a master of virtuosic panache”, Alban Gerhardt has for twenty-five years made a unique impact on audiences worldwide with his intense musicality, compelling stage presence and insatiable artistic curiosity.
Known for his ability to shed fresh light on familiar scores as well as having a keen appetite for exploring new repertoire, Gerhardt is in demand as a concerto soloist, recitalist and chamber musician at the highest level worldwide.
Away from the concert stage, Gerhardt is energetically engaged with creating new points of access to classical music for an ever-broadening audience. Outreach projects have included workshops in schools, hospitals and young offender institutions – not to mention a sequence of performances on the main commuter routes in Germany in collaboration with Deutsche Bahn.
An acclaimed recording artist, Gerhardt has won three ECHO Classic Awards as well as ICMA and MIDEM Classic awards. He has a significant catalogue with Hyperion, spearheading the label’s ‘Romantic Cello Concertos’ series; and has also recorded for Deutsche Grammophon.
Alongside a recent performance of Unsuk Chin’s Cello Concerto with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Gerhardt’s recent and forthcoming concert highlights include invitations from Boston Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic and Oslo Philharmonic orchestras, as well as engagements in Australia and Asia. During 2014/15 he is resident at London’s Wigmore Hall.
