12/12/2014
On 18 December Jörg Widmann’s first piano concerto, Trauermarsch für Klavier und Orchester, receives its world premiere at the Philharmonie Berlin. It is performed by soloist Yefim Bronfman and the Berliner Philharmoniker under Sir Simon Rattle and further performances take place on 19 and 20 December.
The concerto was jointly commissioned by the Stiftung Berliner Philharmoniker, San Francisco Symphony and Toronto Symphony Orchestra and continues Widmann’s reflections on traditional musical forms, devising unique solutions for the genre’s inherent challenges.
