Following his successful collaboration with Daniel Barenboim at the 2013 BBC Proms as Fasolt (Das Rheingold), Stephen Milling returns to Staatsoper Unter den Linden as König Marke in Harry Kupfer’s production of Tristan und Isolde, again under Barenboim. Renowned as one of the world’s foremost interpreters of the Wagner repertoire, Stephen reprises the role in performances opening on 11 October, following a number of successful appearances as König Marke around the globe; these include his operatic debut at Royal Danish Opera, Maggio Musicale di Firenze and Lyric Opera of Chicago, as well as the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the acclaimed Peter Sellars/Bill Viola production, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Stephen continues to perform internationally this season in a variety of repertoire with highlights including Geronte (Manon Lescaut) at Palau de les Arts Reina Sofie under Plácido Domingo, Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) at Royal Danish Opera under Rory McDonald and Gurnemanz (Parsifal) at Wiener Staatsoper under Peter Schneider.
