Krzysztof Urbański named Principal Guest Conductor of Tokyo Symphony Orchestra

The Toyko Symphony Orchestra announced today the appointment of Krzysztof Urbański as its Principal Guest Conductor. Urbański will take up the three year position in April 2013.
29-year-old Urbański is currently Music Director of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Chief Conductor and Artistic Leader of Norway’s Trondheim Symfoniorkester. The Polish conductor made his debut with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 2009 and will return to the orchestra for a third time in August 2012.
Working regularly with the NDR Sinfonieorchester and SWR Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, future guest conducting highlights for Urbański include returns to the Bamberger Symphoniker, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Forthcoming debuts include concerts with the Berliner Philharmoniker, Wiener Symphoniker, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Washington’s National Symphony Orchestra.
In 2013 he will also lead both the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and European Union Youth Orchestra on major European tours in spring and summer respectively.
