Kwamé Ryan debuts with Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra

18 May 2012

Music Director of the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, Kwamé Ryan makes his South Korean debut with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra on 23 May. This two-concert residency, which is part of the orchestra’s Ars Nova series organised by Unsuk Chin, sees Ryan perform with both the chamber and the symphonic orchestras, conducting a diverse range of contemporary repertoire.

The first concert, at the Sejong Centre for Performing Arts, features the Asian premieres of Perttu Haapanen’s Carícias for nine strings, Lou Harrison’s arrangement of John Cage’s Double Music for four percussionists and a specially commissioned work by Jeongkyu Park Opus Vermiculatum while the latter concert at the impressive LG Arts Center includes the Korean premiere of Agon by Stravinsky and Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
