Sakari Oramo returns to the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin

19 April 2012

Sakari Oramo made his long-awaited return to the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin on 15 April in a concert at Berlin's Philharmonie.

Oramo was joined by soprano Anu Komsi for the world premiere of Szymanowski’s complete Lieder einer Märchenprinzessin their orchestral form.

Szymanowski had orchestrated the first, second and fourth movements before his death; Oramo completed the set by orchestrating the third, fifth and sixth movements.

The twentieth century programme also featured Debussy's Prélude à l‘après-midi d‘un faune and Prokofiev's Symphony No. 6.

His debut with the orchestra comes just weeks after his first ever performance with the Weiner Philharmoniker in a series of Sibelius concerts on tour in northern Europe, and his debut with the Weiner Symphoniker in their home city.

In February Oramo was announced as the BBC Symphony Orchestra's new Music Director after conducting just one concert with the orchestra. He will return to the Wiener Philharmoniker in 2013
