Santtu-Matias Rouvali appointed Principal Guest Conductor of Copenhagen Philharmonic

Santtu-Matias Rouvali has been announced as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Copenhagen Philharmonic and will take up the position at the start of the 2013/14 season. His appointment follows his debut with the orchestra in November 2011.

The 26-year-old conductor is currently Artist in Association with Finland’s Tapiola Sinfonietta (an appointment which also followed his debut) and is one of the 2011/12 season Dudamel Conducting Fellows with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Following his recent debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Rouvali will conduct the Toyko Symphony Orchestra and Michigan’s Grand Rapids Symphony Orchestra for the first time later this season. In 2012/13 he makes his debuts with Frankfurt’s hr-Sinfonieorchester, Göteborgs Symfoniker, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Bergen Philharmonic and Philharmonia orchestras, and will make his first recording with Ondine.

He continues his regular relationships with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Residentie Orkest, and the Tampere and Turku Philharmonics.
