Pablo Heras-Casado awarded Diapason d'Or

26 October 2011

The DVD of Kurt Weill’s Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny by La Fura dels Baus has been awarded a Diapason d’Or.

Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the choir and orchestra of Teatro Real Madrid in this recording with Measha Brueggergosman (Jenny), Michael König (Jim), Jane Henschel (Leocadia Begbick), Donals Kaasch (Fatty) and Willard White (Moïse). The DVD was released in October 2011 on Bel Air Classique.

Reviewing the disc, Emmanuel Dupuy wrote in the French magazine Diapason: "The best surprise, however, comes from the pit. The young Pablo Heras-Casado directs the score without concession and with gestures that shape lines and accentuate the drama. One who thinks that lyrical art can evade the conscience and move the earth will not be disappointed.”
