Jean-Efflam Bavouzet wins Gramophone Award

Pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet has won a second Gramophone award for his recording of works by Debussy, Massenet and Ravel for piano and orchestra.

Bavouzet, who records exclusively for Chandos and whose disc of Bartók Concertos was also nominated for the Concerto category, was previously given the Instrumental award in 2009 for Volume Four of his complete Debussy piano works.

Describing Bavouzet's playing in the winning disc, Geoffrey Norris wrote in Gramophone Magazine's review of the album: "The combination of all three works on a single CD creates a satisfying programme, especially when played with such finesse and limpid colouring... the interpretations catch the ear with their blend of subtle phrasing, polish and unanimous zest."
