Sakari Oramo conducts opening concerts of Helsinki Music Centre

1 September 2011

Sakari Oramo conducted the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in the high profile opening concert of Helsinki's new Music Centre on 31 August, and goes on to officially open the FRSO's season at the same venue next week.

Jukka-Pekka Saraste conducted the first half of the concert featuring multiple works by Finland's most famous composer, Sibelius. Saraste was joined by his compatriots John Storgårds and Soile Isokoski. The culmination of this celebration of the Finnish music scene saw Oramo take to the stage with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra for a performance of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.

Next week, Sakari Oramo officially opens the Finnish Radio Symphony's season in a programme featuring Liszt's Faust Symphony and Saariaho Quatre Instants. Joining Oramo for the performance will be another high-profile Finn, Soprano Karita Mattila.
