Pierre-Laurent Aimard releases new CD and performs in Weimar and Brugge
5 September 2011
This week sees the launch of Pierre-Laurent Aimard’s most ambitious recording yet for Deutsche Grammophon. The extensive two-CD set honours Franz Liszt’s 200th birthday, juxtaposing a selection of Liszt’s works with compositions by Liszt’s contemporaries and successors who were inspired by the Hungarian Composer. Aimard will then go on to perform one of the programmes at the Philharmonie Berlin on 5 September as part of Musikfest Berlin 2011.
Aimard also continues his artist residency at the Weimar Festival, with two concerts; a “Collage-Montage” on 7 September and a recital with Christine Schaefer on 8 September, where they will perform lieder by Liszt, as well as Berg’s Seven Early Songs and Poèmes pour Mi by Messiaen.
The week is rounded-off by a performance at the Concertgebouw in Brugge of Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the left hand with the Bamberger Symphoniker conducted by Jonathan Nott.
