Jean Efflam Bavouzet twice shortlisted for Gramophone award
15 August 2011
The critical acclaim for Jean-Efflam Bavouzet’s performances on record continue with him being shortlisted twice in the same concerto category at this year’s Gramophone Awards.
Bavouzet’s Chandos recordings of Bartók’s Piano Concertos 1-3 (with the BBC Philharmonic and Gianandrea Noseda) and separately his disc of Debussy, Ravel and Massenet (with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Yan Pascal Tortelier) have been shortlisted for the concerto prize.
The Gramophone awards are of the industry’s most prestigious prizes, given for outstanding achievements on disc. Also included in the initial nominations are Bavouzet’s compatriot Pierre-Laurent Aimard, who features in the concerto category for his DG disc of Ravel’s Piano Concertos, performed with The Cleveland Orchestra and Pierre Boulez.
In the Opera category, Hannu Lintu has been nominated for his recording with Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra of Rautavaara’s Kaivos; whilst Paavo Järvi’s Virgin Classics recording of Bizet orchestral works with the Orchestre de Paris appears as a Orchestral category nomination. Klara Ek’s disc of Handel’s Berenice with Il Compresso Barocco and Alan Curtis (Virgin Classics) also makes the Baroque vocal list.
