Four HarrisonParrott artists given ECHO Klassik Awards

21 July 2011

Four HarrisonParrott artists have been nominated for prizes in this year's prestigious ECHO Klassik awards.

Established in 1994, the ECHO awards are given for outstanding achievement on record in a variety of categories and are some of the most respected and well-known in Europe.

Lisa Batiashvili's disc for Deutsche Grammophon, Echoes of Time, prompted this year's award for "Instrumentalist of the Year (Violin)". The album features works by Rachmaninov, Pärt, Kancheli, and Shostakovich.

Truls Mørk has been awarded the equivalent prize for cello by the jury for his recording of CPE Bach's Cello Concertos for Virgin Classics. The disc has received wide-reaching critical acclaim since its release in spring 2011.

Sol Gabetta has won her third Echo Klassik award, this year in the "Concerto Recording (19th Century)" category for her disc featuring Elgar's Cello Concerto. Previous wins have been for her debut CD in 2007 and recording of Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 2 with the Münchner Philharmoniker.

David Zinman has also been awarded by the jury for his CD of Mahler's Symphony No. 8 with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich in the "Symphonic Recording of the Year" (19th Century) category.

The ceremony for this year's awards will be held at the Konzerthaus Berlin on 2 October.

The success for HarrisonParrott artists follows on from last year's awards, where Paavo Järvi, Alice Sara Ott, and Janine Jansen picked up accolades for their work.
