Sakari Oramo awarded Pro Finlandia medal

Sakari Oramo and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra are currently on tour with violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja.  Following their performance of Beethoven's Violin Concerto and Nielsen's Symphony No. 4 in Frankfurt's Alte Oper, Oramo was presented with the Pro Finlandia medal by a representative of the Finnish Ambassador, given for his services to Finland and Finnish Music.  This prestigious medal is awarded by the Finnish president annually to Finns who have distinguished themselves in the field of arts and science, and is the highest such recognition that can be given. This medal follows an Honorary OBE in 2009, awarded in recognition of Oramo's services to British music.
