Paavo Järvi's Paris contract extended after just six months with the orchestra

11 March 2011

The Orchestre de Paris have extended Paavo Järvi’s Music Director contract until the end of the 2015/16 season just six months after he took up the post. The contract was originally intended to run until the end of the 2012/13 season.

Bruno Hamard, Managing Director of the orchestra, commented: “The chemistry between Paavo Järvi and the musicians of the Orchestre de Paris has been obvious ever since he took up his functions last September, and we are delighted that he will accompany the orchestra into the new era represented by the opening of the Philharmonie de Paris, its future residence”.

Järvi added: “I am very honoured to have the chance to work with this magnificent orchestra and extremely happy of the mutual understanding I have found with the musicians. Our first joint tour, to Spain in January, brought us very close together in both musical and human terms.”

Paavo Järvi will continue to conduct an average of 28 concerts per year in France and abroad with the orchestra. He also remains Music Director of Frankfurt’s hr-Sinfonieorchester and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and Artistic Director of Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen with whom he recently won an ECHO Klassik Award. Recent and future guest conducting engagements include concerts with the Staatskapelle Dresden, New York Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra and Münchner Philharmoniker.
