Aimard, Eötvös and Mälkki to celebrate Boulez at Southbank Centre
1 February 2011
Pierre-Laurent Aimard – a close friend of Boulez – will curate a weekend-long celebration of the composer’s music in October 2011 entitled Exquisite Labyrinth: the Music of Pierre Boulez.
Aimard will also perform the composer’s compete works for piano alongside pianist Tamara Stefanovich in concerts which also feature as part of the International Piano Series, whilst Peter Eötvös and Susanna Mälkki will conduct concerts with the London Sinfonietta and the Royal Academy of Music Manson Ensemble respectively.
News of the Boulez celebrations was announced by Southbank Centre’s Head of Music, Marshall Marcus.
Other highlights mentioned in Marcus’s speech included the return of Spira mirabilis for two more Beethoven Symphonies (Nos. 5 & 6) in May 2012 – their Southbank Centre debut in 2010 prompted five star reviews from critics – and two appearances by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and Claudio Abbado, with Hélène Grimaud as the soloist.
