Truls Mørk awarded Sibelius Prize

29 January 2011

In recognition of his major contribution to promoting links between Finnish and Norwegian music cellist Truls Mørk has been awarded the Sibelius Prize. The coveted award counts violinist Henning Kraggerud (2008) and conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste (2006) as previous recipients. Although he returned to the concert platform late last year following his extended illness, Truls Mørk's recent concerts with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and Eivind Gullberg Jensen were seen by his home audience as his true return. He was greeted by a standing ovation as he walked on stage, which was repeated after his performance, with Stephan Barratt-Due of the Sibelius Foundation calling his comeback “historic.”
