Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Nikolai Lugansky and Oliver Knussen have all been nominated for prizes in the BBC Music Magazine Awards 2011.
Bavouzet, whose Chandos recordings of Debussy's piano music have already received critical acclaim, is nominated in the orchestral category for his disc of Bartok's Piano Concertos with the BBC Philharmonic and Gianandrea Noseda. Commenting on the CD, Daniel Jaffé wrote: "Here, in the inspired partnership of Jean-Efflam Bavouzet and Gianandrea Noseda, we can hear [the Concertos] as the colourful, joyous and, yes, fun works that they are."
The "Chamber" category sees both Oliver Knussen and Nikolai Lugansky nominated for an award. Lugansky's recording of the Franck and Grieg Violin Sonatas with Vadim Repin for DG were appreciated by George Hall, commenting: "These works benefit from characterised playing from both participants, who offer a huge range of colour and effect." Oliver Knussen's CD with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group gained praise from Christopher Dingle: "From the flittering opening of Four Dances to the unresolved menace that closes Abysm, the performances, marshalled by Knussen, bristle with controlled energy and colour."
Members of the public can vote in each category until late March, with the final prize-winning recordings and artists announced in April.
