Oliver Knussen celebrates life and works of Takemitsu in Japan
1 October 2010
Oliver Knussen makes a return visit to Japan this month, where he will perform four concerts with three orchestras over the next few weeks. He collaborates with the Tokyo Opera City Hall in a concert with the Tokyo Philharmonic on 8 October to celebrate the would-be 80th birthday of the renowned Japanese composer Tōru Takemitsu (1930-1996). A close friend of the late composer, Knussen will conduct Takemitsu’s Riverrun and Asterism, both for orchestra and piano solo (featuring soloist Peter Serkin). He will also work with the Osaka Philharmonic (14 & 15 October) and the Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa (20 October) where he will conduct another of Takemitsu’s works, Archipelago S.
