Andreas Scholl appears in all-star cast at AIDS Gala

29 October 2010

Andreas Scholl joins an all-star cast at Berlin’s annual AIDS Gala held at the Deutsche Oper on 6 November.  Alongside Joyce DiDonato, Simon O’Neill, Pretty Yende and Matti Salminen, he sings Purcell’s celebrated Frost Song as a tribute to Klaus Nomi, an early victim of the epidemic, and the inspiration behind his own new recording - O Solitude. This will be Andreas Scholl’s first all-Purcell disc, recorded this summer with the Accademia Bizantina under Stefano Montanari, and will be the first collaboration since returning to record for Decca.

O Solitude is released in France on 25 October and is available to the rest of Europe on 5 November. In the US it will be released on 23 November.

To celebrate the release Andreas Scholl embarks on a world wide tour starting with three all-Purcell concerts marking his first collaboration with leading French countertenor Philippe Jaroussky at London - Barbican, Brussels - Palais des Beaux Arts and Paris - Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. In the New Year Andreas Scholl and Accademia Bizantina will tour throughout Europe, including appearances in major venues in Munich, Vienna, Cologne, Birmingham, Manchester, Hannover and Berlin.  In September 2011, in partnership with The English Concert, Andreas will tour throughout the USA.
