HarrisonParrott artists and orchestras feature in Gramophone’s 250 Greatest Recordings
The June edition of Gramophone Magazine has named the 250 greatest classical music recordings of all time, inviting some of the most prestigious names in classical music to help compile the selection.
Among those recognised are Susanna Mälkki for her disc of Mantovani with Ensemble intercontemporain, Truls Mørk for his recording of Atterberg’s Cello Concerto, and Oliver Knussen in a recording of his own Horn Concerto with Barry Tuckwell and the London Sinfonietta. Paavo Järvi’s acclaimed cycle of Beethoven’s Symphonies with Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen also features, as does Edo de Waart for his Rachmaninov Piano Concertos disc with Zoltan Kocsis and the San Francisco Symphony. Living legend Maurizio Pollini gets recognition for his recording of Beethoven’s Late Sonatas, and Krystian Zimerman receives plaudits for his benchmark disc of Debussy's Préludes. The jury praised Pierre-Laurent Aimard for his “stunning virtuosity” in Messiaen’s Vingt regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus, Harry Christophers is featured for his recording of the Church Music of Steppard, and Lawrence Foster’s recording of Enescu’s Oedipe with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo is hailed as a classic.
The list, which encompasses a huge spread or repertoire recorded over nearly one hundred years, also features HarrisonParrott touring clients also. The Cleveland and Philharmonia Orchestras appear no less than seven times, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and Budapest Festival Orchestra, each feature twice, and ensembles such as The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie, the Finnish Radio and Bournemouth Symphonies, the Czech and London Philharmonic Orchestras, as well as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra all contribute to the celebration of great performances on record.
