Silvana Dussmann

Silvana Dussmann’s reputation as one of opera’s outstanding sopranos has been confirmed in the last year with acclaimed performances of Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) at the Theater an der Wien and for Oper Frankfurt, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Kaiserin (Die Frau ohne Schatten) in Essen, as well as Norma at the Berlin State Opera.

In March 2007 she gave her debut performance of Wagner’s Wesendonck-Lieder with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and Valery Gergiev. She has just given her debut recital at the Edinburgh Festival with a programme including songs by Schumann, Strauss and Wagner.

Born in Vienna, she studied with KS Rita Streich and with Gerhard Kahry. Milestones in her career include Kaiserin at Oper Frankfurt as well as at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Marietta (Die tote Stadt) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Chrysothemis (Elektra) in Munich as well as Norma in Vienna, Berlin and Munich.

Engagements for the immediate future include Chrysothemis at the State Operas in Hamburg and Vienna, as well as in concert with the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra. Further performances of Kaiserin and Donna Anna in Essen will be followed by Norma at the Berlin State Opera.
