With a career spanning almost four decades, internationally renowned conductor Walter Weller became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of 17 and founded the famous Weller Quartet the following year. He made his debut as a conductor in 1966 and three years later signed a long-term contract with the Vienna Staatsoper enabling him to acquire a very extensive operatic repertoire.
Walter Weller is regularly invited as guest conductor by major orchestras throughout the world, and has held a number of prestigious titles with orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Liverpool and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras and the Basel Symphony Orchestra.
As an operatic conductor his credits include invitations to La Scala, Scottish Opera and the Berlin Staaskapelle while among his many honours he was awarded the great Silver Cross of Honour in 1998 for services to the Republic of Austria.
Walter Weller's extensive discography, which spans a vast amount of the Romantic repertoire, includes recordings with Decca, EMI and Collins Classics as well as all the Beethoven Symphonies for Chandos Records.
