Born in Zürich in 1992 Teo Gheorghiu has already proven himself to be a spectacular young pianist. In 2004 he won first prize in the San Marino International Piano Competition and the same honour in the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Weimar in 2005.
A pupil at London’s Purcell School, Teo made his Zürich Tonhalle debut in 2004 with Schumann’s Piano Concerto. Since then, he has performed concerti by Schumann, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninov and Bach with ensembles including the Zürich Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur, and the Berne Symphony Orchestra, alongside conductors Howard Griffiths and Andrey Boreyko amongst others. Recent recitals have included performances in Milan, London, Istanbul and New York.
This season includes performances of Mozart’s K503 Concerto with the Zürich Chamber Orchestra (Muhai Tang), Mendelssohn’s Concerto No. 2 with the Berne Symphony Orchestra (Zsolt Hamar), the Hess Piano Concert with the London Chamber Orchestra and Chopin’s Concerto No. 1 with the Basel Symphony Orchestra (Rossen Gergov). In September 2008, Teo will make his debut with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra at Suntory Hall.
Teo is also a talented actor, taking the title role in Fredi Murer’s Vitus (2006) opposite Bruno Ganz.
