Teo Gheorghiu

"To hear [him] play takes one's breath away…his manner is a combination of self confidence and modesty, his playing effortless and lucid."

– Neue Zürcher Zeitung, 2007

Born in Zürich in 1992 Teo Gheorghiu has already proven himself to be a spectacular young pianist. In 2004 he won first prize in the San Marino International Piano Competition and the same honour in the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in Weimar in 2005.

A pupil at London’s Purcell School, Teo made his Zürich Tonhalle debut in 2004 with Schumann’s Piano Concerto. Since then, he has performed concerti by Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninov and Bach with ensembles including the Zürich Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Musikkollegium Winterthur, and the Berne Symphony Orchestra, working with conductors such as Howard Griffiths, Andrey Boreyko and Muhai Tang amongst others. Recent recitals have included performances in Berne, Zürich, Basel, Istanbul and London (Wigmore Hall).

His 2008/09 season includes concerts with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra at Suntory Hall, the Philharmonie der Nationen, the Brandenburgisches Staatsorchester Frankfurt, Musikkollegium Winterthur and with the English, Zurich and Geneva Chamber Orchestras in addition to performances at the Beethovenfest Bonn, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Enescu Festival and Winterfestival Gstaad.

Teo is also a talented actor, taking the title role in Fredi Murer’s Vitus (2006) opposite Bruno Ganz.
