Sakari Oramo's unquestionable skill as a conductor and his palpable commitment to the highest quality music-making have earned him the greatest respect and widespread admiration. He appears regularly with the word’s most prestigious orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, NDR Sinfonieorchester and the New York and Oslo Philharmonics.
His creative programmes reflect his Finnish origins, as well as exploring English repertoire. In May 2003, Oramo was Artistic Director of the CBSO’s highly-acclaimed new music festival, ‘Floof’. Highlights of the forthcoming seasons include engagements with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Göteborgs Symfoniker, Staatskapelle Dresden, Orchestre de Paris and a European tour with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe in April 2010.
Sakari Oramo has a number of highly-acclaimed recordings to his credit on Ondine, Warner Classics and Hyperion labels. He is a recipient of numerous awards, including an Honorary OBE from HM the Queen in recognition of his services to music.
