Richard Berkeley-Steele made his debut with Glyndebourne Touring Opera as Flamand in Capriccio, with subsequent roles including Herod with New York City and Stuttgart Operas, included Don José at San Francisco Opera under Marcello Viotti, Laca Klemen/Jenufa at Metropolitan Opera under Vladimir Jurowsky, the title role in Peter Grimes at the Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Lohengrin for English National Opera under Mark Elder.
After his highly successful debut as Siegfried in the 2001 Seattle Ring Cycle he established himself internationally in the heldentenor repertoire. He sang the role of Siegfried in Phyllida Lloyd’s production of Siegfried and The Twilight of the Gods at ENO under Paul Daniel; Siegmund in the 2005 Seattle Ring Cycle under Robert Spano, in Harry Kupfer’s production for the Gran Teatre del Liceu under Bertrand de Billy, at the Nationaltheater Mannheim and at Städtische Theater Chemnitz under Oleg Caetani. Future engagements include General Sir Philip Wingrave at the Royal Opera House, and Tannhäuser for Australian Opera with conductor Richard Hickox.
