Multi-percussionist Martin Grubinger was born in Austria and studied at the Linz Bruckner Conservatory and at the Salzburg Mozarteum. At the age of sixteen he became the youngest-ever finalist at the World Marimbaphone Competition in Japan.

Since then, Martin has given concerts all over the world, performing at venues such as Vienna Musikverein, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, New York’s Carnegie Hall, Baden-Baden Festspielhaus and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. He has worked with the Münchner, Hamburger and Dresdner Philharmoniker, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, NDR Sinfonieorchester Hamburg and NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and on tour with Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester and conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos.

In 2006 he presented his ambitious “Percussive Planet” project at the Bonn Beethovenfest, and in 2007 he received the “Bernstein Award” at the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival. In 2008 he was named “artist in residence” at Leipzig Gewandhaus where he presented recitals, orchestral concerts and a number of education projects and workshops.

Highlights of the current season include premieres of new works by Cerha and Gruber as well as appearances with Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo and Orquestra Nacional do Porto and at festivals such as Schleswig Holstein, Rheingau and Salzburg Festival. Martin Grubinger will also present the “Percussive Planet” in major venues in Munich, Cologne, Heidelberg, Linz and Luxembourg.
