Swedish clarinet virtuoso Martin Fröst is one of the most charismatic and multi-talented soloists performing today, appearing regularly in leading music centres and with major orchestras worldwide. In August 2007, he made his acclaimed Salzburg Festival debut playing Mozart’s clarinet concerto with the Mozarteum Orchestra and Giovanni Antonini.
Highlights in 2007/08 include Nielsen’s Clarinet concerto in Stockholm and Athens with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Vladimir Ashkenazy, and further performances of Nielsen in Stavanger, Munich, Berlin, Brussels and Antwerp. He will tour with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel in summer 2008, and will return to the Rotterdam Philharmonic to play Kalevi Aho’s clarinet concerto.
As one of the first recipients of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award in 2004, he has been asked to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Trust, which includes a major USA tour with Mitsuko Uchida in spring 2008 for concerts of Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time and Bartók’s Contrasts.
