Engagements for the 2009/10 include his debuts with the Sinfonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the BBC Scottish and the New Jersey Symphony Orchestras as well as at the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie (for The Rake’s Progress and concert performances of Ein Deutsches Requiem). He will also return to the Oslo, Bergen and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras, the Milwaukee and BBC Symphony Orchestras, Residentie Orkest and to Santa Fe Opera for The Magic Flute (having conducted Don Giovanni there in the summer of 2009).
In recent seasons Lawrence Renes has conducted many of Europe’s most prestigious orchestras including the WDR Sinfonieorchester, Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin, La Verdi, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orchestre National Bordeaux-Aquitaine, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, MDR Sinfonieorchester, and the Gothenburg and Danish National Symphony Orchestras. In the USA he has conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Seattle, Houston, Detroit, Indianapolis and St Louis Symphony Orchestras, and at the Aspen Music Festival. Further afield he has worked with the New Zealand, Melbourne, and West Australian Symphony Orchestras.
Lawrence Renes has gained an excellent operatic reputation with a broad range of repertoire, including a number of contemporary operas. He gave the US premiere of Tan Dun's Tea with Sante Fe Opera in 2007 and last season saw his debuts with Seattle Opera (Elektra), Den Norske Opera (Carmen) and English National Opera where he gave the UK Premiere of John Adams' Doctor Atomic.
