Now in his third season as Music Director of the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, Kwamé Ryan’s work with this orchestra is attracting increasing international attention following a series of tours throughout Europe and Asia and a recording partnership with Mirare.
Touring plans with the orchestra for 2009/10 include performances at the Folles Journeés in Bilbao as well as at the Choregies d’Orange Festival. He will also conduct a new production of Peter Eötvös’s opera Le Balcon in Bordeaux. As a result of his very successful work with the orchestra in Bordeaux, he has been asked to become Music Director of the Orchestre Français des Jeunes from 2009, which will include two annual tours with the orchestra.
On Mirare, Kwamé Ryan and the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine’s recording of Schubert’s Symphony No.9 was praised by Le Figaro as “an individual approach to Schubert, clear, transparent, flowing, going against the grain of a whole tradition of over-romantic interpretations of this symphony.” Their second disc, released in spring 2009, features Rachmaninov’s Symphony No.2.
