The 2007/08 season marks Kwamé Ryan’s first official season as Music Director of the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine. As Music Director Designate he conducted the orchestra in a number of projects including Berlioz's La Mort de Cleopatre and Poulenc's La Voix Humaine with Mireille Delunsch in 2007. This season he tours with the orchestra to Spain and Japan. Together they have started a series of recordings on Mirare, and their first CD – with Schubert’s 9th Symphony – has just been released.
Other recent highlights have included his English National Opera debut, with Strauss' Salome and the world premiere of Pintscher's L'espace dernier at the Bastille in 2005. In 2006 he conducted the world premiere of Gérard Pesson's Pastorale at the Stuttgart State Opera, where he also conducted a production of Hartmann's Simplicius Simplissimus. A DVD of this production has just been released on ArtHaus.
In ever-increasing demand in North America, Kwamé Ryan will make his debuts this season with the Symphony Orchestras of New Jersey, Houston, Atlanta and Toronto.
