Kuusisto also works regularly as a guest conductor in Lahti, and has conducted the Tapiola and Västeräs Sinfoniettas, the Finnish Radio Symphony, and BBC Concert Orchestras. Recent successes include the Trondheim Symphony, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra and Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, and he has upcoming debuts with the Royal Flemish Philharmonic, the Pori and Jönköping Sinfoniettas, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra and the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz.
As a composer his Between Seasons suite has been recorded by the Helsinki Strings for the Finlandia label, and his children's opera The Canine Kalevala enjoyed outstanding success (under his own baton) at Savonlinna in 2004, 2005 and 2007 (the latter recorded for a future DVD release).
In March 2006 Ondine released his debut recording as a conductor, featuring the music of Iiro Rantala. As a violinist, he has recorded concertos by Rautavaara, Pulkkis, Sallinen, Bach and Prokofiev, and for BIS he has recorded seven CDs of chamber music and violin works by Sibelius.
