Hüseyin Sermet

Turkish pianist-composer Hüseyin Sermet has performed in concert with conductors such as Antal Doráti, Lorin Maazel, Semyon Bychkov, Emmanuel Krivine, David Robertson and Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos.

With orchestra he has performed with the Bavarian Radio Symphony, NHK Symphony, Detroit Symphony, and the Orchestre National de Lyon to name but a few. Notable musical collaborations include performances and recordings with Mstislav Rostropovich, Yuri Bashmet, Maria Jõao Pires, and Ruggero Raimondi.

A student of Olivier Messiaen and Nadia Boulanger, Sermet's compositions include “Réminiscence” (performed at the Empéri Festival and broadcast live by France Musique) and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra commissioned “Dream and Nightmare” for orchestra. His String Quartet won the Lili Boulanger prize in 1974.

Hüseyin Sermet has made a number of recordings for Naïve, Harmonia Mundi and Erato. Award winning discs include his first volume of Ravel solo piano works, three cds of the music of Alkan (all Diapason d’Or), a traversal of Schubert’s works for two pianos, and a magnificent disc of the Liszt Sonata and late works (both Choc du Monde de la Musique)
