Hélène Grimaud

Hélène Grimaud’s life in music started very early and at the age of 12 she had already entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris. By her late teens, her career was well launched with her first highly praised recording, the winning of the MIDEM Classical Award, high profile engagements in France and her first performances in Tokyo. Within a few years, her performances had become truly global, establishing a pattern of musical collaborations with the most important orchestras of the world as well as solo appearances in all the major international concert halls and festivals, including the Lucerne Festival where she will be Artiste Etoile in 2010.

By now, concerts with orchestras such as the Berliner Philharmoniker, Philharmonia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia and NHK Symphony Orchestras, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Münchner Philharmoniker are regular features of her calendar, in collaboration with three generations of leading conductors ranging from Sanderling, Masur, Abbado, Haitink, Zinman, and Ashkenazy to Gergiev, Jurowski, Harding, Luisi, Nelsons and Sokhiev. Her limitless passion for music is also shown in her love of playing chamber music with a wide range of partners, including amongst many others, Truls Mørk, Thomas Quasthoff, Rolando Villazon, Jörg Widmann, Clemens Hagen, Renaud and Gautier Capucon.

Since 2002 her exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon has established her as one of their most important artists with a string of imaginative CDs of music ranging from Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Bartók and Rachmaninov to Credo by Arvo Pärt. Her most recent release of Bach, both original and in transcriptions by Busoni, Rachmaninov and Liszt has achieved much acclaim.
