British Baritone Garry Magee is increasingly acknowledged as a remarkable and distinguished talent. He has made a number of acclaimed debuts: with La Monnaie as Malatesta (Don Pasquale) and Dandini (La Cenerentola), with Vlaamse Opera as Yeletsky (Pique Dame), with Opera de Monte Carlo as Silvano (Un ballo in maschera), with Glyndebourne Festival Opera as the Steward (Flight), and the title-roles in Don Giovanni for Opera North and Pelléas and Mélisande for English National Opera. Garry Magee was the First Prize-winner of the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Award in 1995 and a Prize-winner in the 1996 International Belvedere Competition in Vienna. He is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio.
This season highlights have included Don Alfonso (Così fan Tutte) and Conte d'Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) in the Netherlands Opera’s Mozart Da Ponte cycle, and in concert he performed Rachmaninov’s Le Printemps with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse conducted by Tugan Sokhiev. He goes on to sing Sharpless (Madama Butterfly) with Scottish Opera which will tour throughout the UK during March-June 2007.
