"In the last movement [of Mahler's 7th] de Waart pushed the tempo with disciplined insistence, as though some force of nature had taken control and pushed the symphony's narrative beyond anyone's capacity to tell it nicely. But de Waart and the orchestra told it vividly, and one left the hall with ears full of wild, swirling turbulence and fantastic surges of energy."

– Sydney Morning Herald, 24 March 2006
