Born in 1956 in Münster, Germany, Christoph Poppen has drawn attention to himself through his creative artistry and his comprehensive commitment to contemporary music. As an artistic director he exemplifies perceptive programming and innovative ideas; as a soloist and conductor persuasive conveyance of musical visions.
In August 2006 Christoph Poppen was appointed Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra. A frequent guest with various orchestras Christoph Poppen has appeared with the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Deutsches Sinfonie-Orchester Berlin, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Staatskapelle Dresden, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Singapore Symphony, Detroit and Indianapolis Symphonies, and the Orchestra of the Royal Danish Opera, to mention just a few.
His productive collaboration with the Tirolean Landestheater Innsbruck has led to many successful opera projects: among others Mozart’s Zauberflöte and a concert performance of Rossini’s Othello, along with a new production of Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito.
As a violinist Christoph Poppen has been the laureate of many German and international violin competitions. Most recently the CD Morimur was released: a recording of Bach’s D Minor Partita with the Hilliard Ensemble.
