Alison Balsom

"A stunning recital from a poet of this traditionally martial instrument."

– Richard Wigmore, Gramophone, October 2008

Alison Balsom has cemented an international reputation as one of classical music’s great ambassadors. She was named Best Young British Performer at the 2006 Classical BRITs and was honoured with the Classic FM Listener’s Award at the September 2006 Gramophone Awards. In 2007 the Echo Klassik Awards hailed her “Rising Artist of the Year” and in 2009 she became the first ever Briton to be crowned “Female Artist of the Year” at the Classical BRITs.

Highlights of the 2009/10 season include performances and with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Recent debuts have included appearances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. In September 2009 Alison headlined The Last Night of the BBC Proms.

Alison records exclusively for EMI Classics; her latest disc is a collection of Italian Concertos with the Scottish Ensemble.
