BIOGRAPHY

Hungarian-born Gergely Németi is currently on contract with the Wiener Staatsoper after making his debut there in 2008. 

His wide repertoire ranges from Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore and Ernesto in Don Pasquale, through Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Ottavio in Don Giovanni to Cassio in Otello and Alfred in Die Fledermaus as well as numerous operetta roles.

In addition to his vocal studies in Romania, he has attended master classes under Sherrill Milnes, Dame Ann Murray, Bernd Weikl, Dennis O’Neill, John Fisher, Jane Eaglen, Ileana Cotrubas, Carol Vaness and Dame Kiri te Kanawa.

He was scholarship holder at the CEE Musiktheater in Vienna (2004-2007) and holder of a scholarship at the Cardiff International Academy of Voice in 2007 under Dennis O’Neill.

Since his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2008 as A Messenger in Aida, he has since sung Beppe in Pagliacci, Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette, Narraboth in Salome, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Fenton in Falstaff, Jaquino in Fidelio and Malcolm in Macbeth.

His Wagnerian roles include the Helmsman in Der Fliegender Holländer, Walther von der Vogelweide in Tannhäuser and Froh in Das Rheingold.

Plans include further performances of Tamino at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2011 and, at the Staatstheater Stuttgart, Andres in Wozzeck, Don Ottavio and Achilles in Iphigenie en Aulide. He will also sing Walther von der Vogelweide at the Tokyo Spring Festival.
