Biography
2011/12 engagements include concerts with the Orchestre National de Belgique, Orquestra Sinfonica Portuguesa, BBC Philharmonic, London Philharmonic and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestras, as well as Washington's National Symphony Orchestra. Further performances take place at Wiesbaden Festspielhaus as part of the Burghofspiele Festival, and at Prague's Rudolfinum at the Dvořák Prague International Music Festival. He will also give recitals at the Celebrity Series Boston, the Washington Performing Arts Society and the Istanbul Recital Series.
Highlights in recent seasons have included recitals at the International Piano Series in London, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Zürich Tonhalle, Mecklenburg Vorpommern Festival, Dortmund Next Generation Festival and Ruhr Piano Festival.
Vondráček made his debut with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under Vladimir Ashkenazy in May 2002 and since then his performances of Prokofiev, Rachmaninov, Mendelssohn and Dvořák's Piano Concertos have received critical acclaim. His first commercial recording (Octavia records) includes pieces by Mendelssohn, Liszt, Janacek, Dohnányi and Rachmaninov. At the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Vondráček was awarded The Raymond E. Buck Jury Discretionary Award.
