Reviews

"Mr. de Waart aptly illustrated the intricacies of the alluring score... he conducted a glowing rendition, highlighting the colorful score's dramatic cadences and painterly vistas" (The New York Times, December 2010)

“At the start, de Waart carved and caresses the air expressively, drawing insistent bursts of horns, rising sweeps of strings and bright twinges of trilling woodwinds from the orchestra in quick succession, musical phrases that seemed to chase each other around like young lovers... when it was done the audience was almost uniformly on their feet hollering.” (Journal Sentinel)

“Under de Waart's clear, confident direction, the orchestra's strings shone brightly.” (Pioneer Press)

“Much of the credit for that success goes to conductor Edo de Waart, who emphasized the intricate textures of Strauss' orchestration... his approach paid off at moments such as the trio, when time seemed to stop - and rapt listeners wished it would.” (Associated Press, October 2009).

“…he drew a flowing, lucid and refreshingly unsentimental performance from the orchestra.” (The New York Times, October 2009)
